Chef turned photographer with a passion for all things food, from the light that shapes it to the best places to find it, to the people who make or grow it. I feel incredibly lucky to be doing what I’m doing.
Just a personal shot I grabbed of this morning scene just west of Reno NV. This is actually right off of I80, and I just aired in the shoulder and hiked down to grab this. Taken a few years ago, the barn is now gone and this entire area of the foreground is a dense housing development.
Shot inside the Denver airport for High Flying Foods, a company that specializes in putting local restaurants into the corresponding international airport. If you look close you can actually see a plane at the terminal through the window. Right outside this crop is a bustling and busy restaurant. This image is a composite of several exposures.
Pulled Pork Sandwich. Despite the calmness of this shot, this was actually photographed in an extremely busy restaurant on location inside the Denver Airport. I have a client that puts regional restaurants into the corresponding major airport and this was part of a broader photoshoot showing the food and architecture of their new property.
Portrait of a #chef in his tasting menu #kitchen shot for a wine country client as part of their artisan series. A fun fact with this one is that I needed to kick some light onto his left side (camera right) and stuck a flash inside an aluminum mixing bowl high on a shelf to do so. Use what you’ve got :)
Part of a location shoot inside a grocery store highlighting their new all day cafe. Unlike a previous shot which needed to feel like “afterwork/evening” this one needed to feel like “morning coffee before work”. With the sun on the other side of the building I had to “make it” outside this heavily tinted window with some profoto power packs, then gel some interior flash heads to mimic the softer warmer light inside.

Shot for a grocer client looking to highlight an after work tap room in their grocery store. Shot in the middle of the day but back tinted windows were darkened further and color graded to look like evening.
Part of a personal project called “Guilty Pleasures”.
“It seems like often when we purchase a single slice of cake, we may not be disclosing to our significant others that we’ll be eating, or have eaten... cake. In fact, we may not even admit it to ourselves. Is it a heist? Is it culinary adultery? It’s definitely one of the seven deadly sins. This personal project is dedicated to the single slice crime scene. We’re all guilty.” #cake #sweettooth #dessert #motion #animation
Jay Foster and Deanna Sison at their restaurant Farmer Brown, in San Francisco International Airport. Because of restrictions for photography inside the airport this project was shot after the airport closed, and the time stamp on this image is 2:30am. Taken as part of a larger project for a client who puts local restaurants into corresponding regional airports.
“Created in place” - styled, propped and photographed in my home studio for a long time client for social media. Part of a series of four gifs/stills captured this day of four different products and scenes. Remote art directed by the client with direct access to my Capture One feed. #breakfast #gif
